Under Maine Skies This collection of new paintings celebrates the places in Maine as an artist I have grown up and got to know well for their beauty and power of spirit. They are about tapping into the deeper view, which elicits the heart and imagination of the viewer. To look rather than copy nature using my spiritual sight, George Inness described this as ?to see with God? My method of expression is using paint and canvas as my tools. My influences are a combination of the structure and transcendental expression of the Luminist, the more intimate enclosed landscapes of the Tonalists from the18th century and color as the post modernist artists such as Fairfield Porter and Wolf Kahn. Standing near the marshes on the Ogunquit River near my home at sunset or joining an evening in the Berwick?s observing cows retiring in their pastoral setting is what inspires me and drives me to paint. These paintings are about capturing those fleeting moments from the grand landscapes of Maine.
